Jennifer Noinaj was our winner of the “Send a Texan to Chicago” courtesy of Woodlake Travel. We spoke to her at the airport in Austin as she prepared to head to CIMMFEST in Chicago to help KFEE cover the festival.
Hi KFEE.net listeners!
I’m excited to have won the “Texan in Chicago” contest and for the chance to come up to Chicago to cover the sixth annual Chicago International Movies and Music Festival. Thanks to all of the sponsors and all of my friends who supported me!
Before I start blogging about my experience, I’d just like to introduce myself. I currently live in Austin and my two favorite things combine into a palindrome: tacocat! (No seriously, I love tacos and cats.) I am also most definitely not a professional music blogger but I am an avid concert goer and music lover. For a better idea of my music taste, here’s my last.fm profile!
One of the things I’ve been contemplating a lot lately has been the general concert experience when you go to see a band you love and go to see a band you’ve never heard of for the first time. There a few bands on the lineup that I haven’t heard of and I honestly like that I’m going to see them with no expectations – though I do think CIMMFest is full of talented musicians! I guess from a music journalism perspective, is it important to have that familiarity beforehand? Anyway, I’m really just aiming to bring all of the awesome talent from the fest to you from fresh eyes!
In terms of CIMMFest coverage, these are the shows I’m planning on going to so they’re the ones you can expect to see reviewed:
Wed, April 30th – Davina and the Vagabonds
Thu, May 1st – Boyce & Hart / Phil Cohran / Yo La Tengo
Fri, May 2nd – Prism / Larry Ochs
Sat, May 3rd – Be Here to Love Me / CIMMCon Film Panel
Unfortunately since I have to head back to Austin on Sunday, I won’t be able to make the Downtown Boys, Mozart’s Sister, Trust, and EMA show at the Empty Bottle but I think that’ll be a show worth seeing!
Signing out for now,
